The World's First All-glass Undersea Restaurant Opens

The World's First All-glass Undersea Restaurant Opens

The Maldives -- The first ever all-glass undersea restaurant in the world opens its doors for business at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. Ithaa will sit five meters below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic offering diners 270-degrees of panoramic underwater views.

Created by MJ Murphy Ltd, a design consultancy based in New Zealand, Ithaa's distinctive feature is the use of curved transparent acrylic walls and roof, similar to those used in aquarium attractions. "The fact that the entire restaurant except for the floor is made of clear acrylic makes this unique in the world.

What can you do on top of the skyscraper?

Turns out, many wonderful things can be tried (some with success) on top of the vintage skyscraper roofs:

It's the best place for romance!

or to hang out with buddies:

Golf in the sky can be challenging:

Prime position for a best shot:

Seeking inspiration:

adjusting the time:

Since then, the dining options have improved:

"Dinner in the sky" takes place at a table suspended at a height of 50 meters by a team of professionals.

If skyscraper's roof is not high enough for you for playing tennis, there is always an airplane wing (note: this picture was taken before the advent of Photoshop, so no dingolfication involved here)

Canada mints world's biggest gold coin

Got change for a million? Canada does: the world's biggest pure gold coin at 200 pounds. Already, three buyers have shelled out for one of the 1 million Canadian dollar coins introduced last week.

The Royal Canadian mint made the coins -- 20 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick -- mostly to seize the bragging rights from Austria, which had the record with a 70-pound, 15-inch wide coin.
Listed as 99.999 percent pure gold bullion, the coin features Queen Elizabeth II on one side and Canada's national symbol -- the maple leaf -- on the other.

It takes about six weeks to make and has a face value of 1 million Canadian dollars ($903,628), though it sells for approximately $2.7 million depending on the market value of gold.

Wow!!!

No morphin stuff this. Here is a great optical illusion photo taken of a Lufthansa 747-400 and a United Airlines 757-200 that were on simultaneous approaches to runways 28L and 28R at San Francisco (SFO).

The separation requirement for flying parallel and simultaneous approaches is 225 meters (738 feet). These two aircraft are at a safe distance for the approaches they are each flying.

Due to the Lufthansa 747 being three times larger than the 757 plane and being slightly behind , gives us this incredible optical illusion.

Day & Night -- In a Single Glance!!!

The photograph attached was taken by the crew on board the Columbia during its last mission, on a cloudless day. The picture is of Europe and Africa when the sun is setting. Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots you see are the cities' lights.

The top part of Africa is the Sahara Desert. Note that the lights are already on in Holland, Paris, and Barcelona, and that it's still daylight in Dublin, London, Lisbon, and Madrid. The sun is still shining on the Strait of Gibraltar. The Mediterranean Sea is already in darkness.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, you can see the Azores Islands; below them to the right are the Madeira Islands; a bit below are the Canary Islands; and further South, close to the farthest western point of Africa are the Cape Verde Islands.

Note that the Sahara is huge and can be seen clearly both during day time and night time. To the left, on top is Greenland, totally frozen.
