Ratatouille

Imagine a rat sneaking into your kitchen, you never know what it's upto. The very sight of this rotund, squeaking, pesky little one will trigger panic waves in a jiffy to all of us. The following review has got lots to do with the first two sentences above.

My stream being animation, animated movies have always been my favorites. One movie that I watched very recently was Ratatouille. I just couldn't resist commenting on this movie. Hands down this flick is one of the best movies of the year, at least for me. It's not that I love animated movies that I am urging you to watch this movie, but Ratatouille is a great family movie and is a must-watch one. Trust me fellas..


The very theme of this movie is "Anyone Can Cook". The movie revolves around Remy who has a problem. As with many who live in France, he has a passion for fine food, and a gift for making it. His keen sense of smell serves him very well as an enthusiastic gourmet, and in his ability to pick just the right combination of ingredients to create magical flavors. And great food is that to him – magic. It has a power that fills him with wonder and awe.

Only problem is, Remy is a rat.

Some plot, in brief... Set in modern day Paris, France, this charming film concerns the hopes and dreams of a single rat named Remy. He lives with his rat family, yet scorns the low-quality dining options that are available (garbage). For Remy, food is not just fuel, but art to be savored and appreciated. He yearns to cook like the late, fabled chef Gusteau, who once ran the finest restaurant in Paris but died brokenhearted when his restaurant was ruined by a review from a scolding, influential critic. By happenstance, Remy quickly finds his way inside the kitchen of the legendary eatery and his arrival is simultaneous with that of Linguini, a nervous would-be dishwasher who also yearns for better things. Thus, a great culinary partnership is born between these two.

I can assure one thing for sure, you will at the end of this film, reach for the rewind button. This movie is one of those which will stick into your heads forever, and you cannot get over it.

the Pursuit of Happyness

Had ample lot of time for supper, so thought of catching up with this movie, which was lying idle for days inside this 160-GB compact hard drive neatly enclosed in this laptop of my room mate. The title, the PURSUIT of HAPPYNESS, made me pause for a while. My favorite or preferred genres of movies include sci-fi, action, thriller, animation (you know why, no comments, read on..), comedy.... but when it comes to drama with a tint of sentiment laced on to it, I usually stay away from such movies.

This flick left me speechless. No words to describe how incredible and beautifully put in picture the way life can treat you when you are down. Hands down one of the best movies of 2006. Right from the opening scene till the end, this picture will make you think..... Guess most of them might have watched it last Friday at our very own Galleria at FRM. For those of you who missed it, download it from some torrent (strictly at yo home of course...hehehe) or borrow it from your friends... Don't miss it out...

The World's Fastest Indian

It is undoubtedly, to the best of my knowledge, the first movie review being posted. Saturday usually being one the busiest days of my schedule, wherein I go into hibernation for the chunk of the day, somehow squeezed in some time to watch this movie, The World's Fastest Indian.

For a second, it struck me that the movie has got something do with the fastest Indian in the world, Milkha Singh, regarded as one of the greatest athletes India has ever produced. The title being rather ambiguous and misleading, I assumed it was about this great athlete, his achievements and whatnot.

Baaaaah...... Antz deserves a sound whacking. Being a crazy bike lover, I was feeling a bit sheepish about the fact that the Indian in fact stands for a great American motorcycle rather than the I-know-everthing assumptions made on top by the blog administrator.

The World's Fastest Indian -- The true story of Burt Munro - a New Zealand man who spent decades perfecting his classic 1920 Indian motorcycle. At age 68, he risked everything, including his own life, taking the bike to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to break the World Speed Record. Anthony Hopkins playing the lead role does a good job. If you are hunting around for the real definition of grit and determination, then this is a must-watch one..... trust me.
